Legal

Specialist legal expertise for a changing digital world.

Independent practitioners working at the forefront of AI, data, copyright and platform law, supporting organisations to act with clarity and confidence as the rules of the digital economy evolve.

Foundations

A new body of law is taking shape around the technologies we now rely on.

Advancing technologies are generating legal questions that existing policies and safeguards were not designed to answer. Across sectors, organisations of every size are seeking specialist legal support that matches the scale and pace of their work. We work with clients on the questions that matter to their daily operations and test cases defining the future legal landscape.

  • How do you translate new regulations into clear operational standards?

  • Where is the line between fair use and infringement when AI is part of the creative process?

  • How exposed is your organisation for mistakes made by generative or automated systems?

  • How do you respond when your work is misrepresented or your reputation is attacked online?

  • How do you maintain data integrity and trust as your digital ecosystem evolves?

Who we help

Tailored support from a collaborative network.

We connect organisations of every size with a network of practitioners who pool their collective experience across the legal landscape. This collaborative approach allows us to offer the depth and reach of a major commercial firm to a wider range of clients.

Smaller and Growing Businesses

Whether you are building or using AI, navigating copyright and data questions, or managing licensing in an evolving landscape, we provide the specialist support needed by businesses operating without a permanent in-house legal function.

Civil Society & Community Groups

Supporting those advocating for tech justice and corporate accountability, or communities disproportionately affected by irresponsible technology. We make specialist legal expertise accessible to organisations that traditionally lack the resources to challenge systemic digital harms or influence new regulation.

In-house Legal Teams & General Counsel

Providing a strategic extension to in-house functions managing matters where the law is unsettled or evolving. We offer objective second opinions, specialist guidance on individual cases, and bespoke training to deepen your team’s internal grasp of the field.

How we work

A different kind of legal partner.

We specialise in legal support for organisations engaging seriously with advancing technologies, including areas where the law is unclear, contested, or still being shaped. Our approach brings focused legal expertise together with AGENCY's wider perspective on how regulation, innovation and society interact.

Integrated Oversight.

AGENCY is actively involved throughout every engagement. We oversee how work is scoped, coordinated and delivered, ensuring that legal advice is aligned with strategy, whether that is risk management, regulatory challenge or social impact. Legal work is not treated as an isolated service but as part of a broader effort to inform practice and establish how new rights and duties apply, or where they fall short.

Collective work for shared outcomes.

Many legal questions are not unique to a single organisation. They arise across sectors, communities and groups working on shared issues such as platform accountability, systemic online harm and the interpretation of new regulatory regimes. Where helpful, we coordinate strategic and research work across organisations dealing with the same matters, while each retains its own confidential relationship with its instructed practitioner. This allows groups to pursue test cases, and coordinate regulatory engagement and collective challenge, with clear guardrails around responsibility and confidentiality.

Clear scope, clear costs.

  • Fixed fees for defined work. Where the scope is clear, such as a contract review, a written opinion or a drafted letter, we propose a fixed cost agreed in advance.

  • Capped fees for evolving work. Where the scope is harder to predict, such as an unfolding regulatory matter or a strategic advisory engagement, we work to a capped budget, agreed at the outset. If we approach the limits of that budget, we tell you before further work is undertaken and agree the next step together.

  • Consistent case management. We draw on the full breadth of AGENCY’s work to support you. Not all queries require a qualified practitioner, and as a legal client you can access advice and experience from across the network, coordinated through a single direct AGENCY contact who understands every aspect of your case.

  • No clock-watching. Routine communication about your case is included in the fee, so you will never be billed for a quick check-in, update or clarifying conversation.

Professional standards.

Every practitioner in our network is independently authorised and regulated, and carries their own professional indemnity insurance. You receive the protections of a regulated legal engagement, delivered through a model designed for specialist work and collective challenge.
